Graffiti park // Nomadic Community Gardens in Shoreditch
I spent last Sunday morning wandering in Hackney and Shoreditch to look for some new street art. At some point, following a graffiti trail, I ended up in the middle of two large rail tracks. In this area, separated to the rest of the town by a pedestrian bridge and a tunnel, I found this place. It’s called Nomadic Community Garden, and at first, it seemed to me an abandoned community of mad artists and farmers. The place consists of an outdoor area with allotments to grow food, as well as temporary sitting areas, art installations and graffiti. The place was open and I went in, on Sunday at 9AM, it was quite empty although there were a few individuals painting or cultivating food. Apparently, the organisation behind specialised in creating gardens in areas that are unused or awaiting development. With the owner permission, the idea is to create a space for "for use by the local community to grow food, share knowledge and skills, build relations and care for their environment”. If you like graffiti and street art, this place is quite an interesting one
