SUBDUDE // Yellow little men
In recent weeks Shoreditch has been slowly colonized by little yellow dudes on black background. Sometimes in the form of stencils (like this pic), more often as paste-ups. The yellow dude attracted my attention not much for the stylistic aspect but for the messages that he is carrying in his call-outs. Reading it one by one, I realized how sharp, ironic and sarcastic the texts are "only little people pay tax" (true, we live in a society that legalize tax elusion for the richest and multicorp - pls note the call-out shape), "the alghortim is gonna get you" (happening, soon we will all have alghoritm-based personal ratings) or "ctrl+alt+detonate" (nostalgic, reminds the '90s with MS Dos or Win 3.11), "it's not all about your selfie" (more for the millennials) and "common sense banned due to health and safety concerns" (waiting for when kids will be forbidden to play with the ball unless under supervision of a professional trainer). Still looking for new messages but after a few weeks I think these are for the moment. The artist seems calling himself SubDude or Narciso. Stylistically, not much to note, but the texts are at Banksy-level for their subtle social messages. If Otto Schade is the successor of Banksy for the stencils and the colours, SubDude could be the one for the sharp texts. Let's see
