DALE GRIMSHAW // Why Bob Marley in Brockley?
Went out in Brokley (South London) last weekend to visit some friends. Just out of the station there are two astonishing giant murals. One is by Dale Grimshaw and is a portrait of Bob Marley. "Cliche" was my first thinking. Why Bob here ? Why not Che Guevara for example? The reality is always more complex than the first impression. What I learnt later, is that this spot hosted Bob Marley murals for nearly 40 years until the building was demolished to make way to a new residential development. In order to preserve the artistic history, the community raised the money to replace it. In Spring 2015, Brockley hosted a Street Art festival and Dale Grimshaw was choosen to paint this wall.
